Fun, it was not, as a team of 16 staff and volunteers braved the searing hot temperature in London last Sunday. They took part in the British 10K Run to raise money for National Talking Newspapers and Magazines. This Heathfield based charity supplies all the U.K. National Newspapers and a wide variety of magazines in formats suitable for blind and print-disabled people all over the world.
Despite the scorching sun, many of the team achieved personal bests. Roy Wolfe (IT worker) and his partner Elspeth Davies said that they were so hot they were taking water from every station so as not to dehydrate. “Never again!” gasped Mariette Deans who works for the commercial arm of the charity (Soundtalking) as she crossed the finishing line. Luke Williams (Soundtalking) was so hot that he tipped a bottle of water over himself to cool down. He’s sure he could improve on his time of 55 minutes.
The event gave all who took part and those who supported them a great feeling of achievement. It’s not too late to reward their supreme effort by making a gift on www.justgiving.com You could also telephone Talking Newspapers on 01435 866102.
