E-Text

Subscribers who select any combination of the first three methods can take as many publications as they wish for the standard subscription fee. Publications can be downloaded from the Self-Service B.B.S. or Website as required, or they can be delivered by email straight to your inbox as soon as they are available. There is a simple automated system which enables you to choose the titles you wish to receive, request a back issue, or temporarily suspend your deliveries while you are on holiday.

CD-ROM: The Digital Newsagent

The Digital Newsagent CD-ROM is a weekly compilation of most of the digital titles produced by National Talking Newspapers and Magazines, as well as all the books produced by Project Gutenberg during the previous week. Full publication texts are presented in an easy to navigate format. The CD-ROM is delivered direct to you - post-free if you are visually impaired.

Electronic Books

Project Gutenberg is the most important source of free electronic books available on the internet - currently almost 10,000, mostly in English, but over 20 other languages are represented. They publish books out of copyright, generally pre-1923. So they don't publish the latest bestsellers or modern computer books. You will find classic books from the start of the 20th century and previous centuries, from authors such as Shakespeare, Dante, Poe, as well as the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Alice 's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and thousands more.

Talking Newspapers and Magazine produces two weekly publications devoted to this resource, a weekly summary of new books, usually more than 50, and a full listing, updated every week to include the new issues. The entire weekly production of books is stored on the weekly CD-ROM and in addition you can use the Automatic Selection System to request any of them. We believe that Talking Newspapers and Magazines offers the fastest and easiest access to this electronic library in the world.

Audio Download

The new Audio Download Service allows you to access the publications we record in our studios via the web.

Publications can be listened to online via streaming, downloaded to your PC for later listening (in MP3 format), or you can subscribe to a publication’s podcast to download the audio automatically when a new edition becomes available.

Each publication edition is divided into two or four parts (each part relating to a tape ‘side’) and each part can be downloaded individually. Each part is approximately 13MB in size, requiring a download time of approximately 1 minute using a standard 2MB broadband. Using a dial-up connection, each part will take about 40 minutes to download.

Publications can also be downloaded or played on a track-by-track basis.

A podcast is available for each publication. This will enable you to automatically download the latest edition of each publication as it becomes available.

Check out the Audio Download Categories and Publications List for more details.

Digital Newsfeed

The new digital newsfeed service searches thousands web-based news sources to find up-to-date stories concerning print disability and related issues. A link to each story found is provided along with a brief summary. Users can then click on the link to take them to the full story.

This service is provided free to all E-Text subscribers.
