New Subscription Prices – Subscribing Has Never Been Cheaper

As from April 2nd 2007, we have changed the way we price subscriptions.

The most important change is that the current banding system, with a surcharge for CD titles, has been replaced with a more straightforward price-per-item scheme. Under the new scheme, each publication you take will be priced individually, the specific price being determined by the frequency of the publication, the format in which it is delivered and the number of tapes or CDs per edition. The one exception to this remains the e-text service, which will continue to be priced for the service as a whole, rather than for each publication taken.

This revised system has three key advantages:

Firstly, it is easier to understand. Each item you take has a price. We have found that the previous system of banding, particularly in combination with the surcharge for audio CDs, can make it difficult to explain to people the price they should be paying.

Secondly, it lowers the entry level price for the service, no longer forcing people that would like to take just 1 or 2 titles to pay for 3, and potentially allowing more people to enjoy the titles we produce.

And thirdly, the scheme is fairer - the charges are more representative of the cost of a subscription. Under the previous scheme, those taking a small number of infrequent titles paid significantly more per edition than individuals taking large numbers of more frequent titles. This new scheme goes some way to redressing the balance, ensuring that subscribers pay a fairer amount for the material they receive.

Each individual publication/item is now priced as follows. All prices are per annum, although quarterly and half-yearly subscriptions are available:

Any subsidiary titles that received free through a subscription to a main title – for example a Sunday Supplement through a subscription to Sunday Newspaper - will continue to be provided free of charge.
