All the audio recordings (with just a few exceptions - see note below) produced by the charity are now available online. This amounts to more than 200 popular newspaper and magazine titles.
The download service, launched last summer, has proved popular with subscribers:
"Just wanted to say how fantastic the download service is. Really easy to use and so much to choose from. It gets the thumbs up from me." AD, Devon
The audio files can either be listened to online by visiting the website or downloaded to be played later on MP3 players. Each file is 45 minutes long and individual articles can be chosen from a playlist. This gives subscribers the opportunity of being selective in the articles that they listen to, just like sighted people would skim through a newspaper and choose what to read.
The audio download service provides several advantages over physical media. Publications are available more promptly and you don't have to worry about returning tapes or managing CDs; access is not restricted so you can access any of the available titles at any time; once downloaded you can transfer the audio to any compatible portable player.
